Lewis & Clark

For everyone who's following the daily twists & turns of our future plans, we received word this past weekend that David was accepted to Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, OR!! He still has a few more schools to hear back from and he has a few inviting job offers as well. So, we'll see what happens... However, it is very exciting to receive the news & as most of you know, Portland is one of the cities David & I have been thinking about living in for a number of years now! No, neither of us have ever been there BUT how could you not love the city that can say this about itself:
  • Travel + Leisure magazine readers say Portland is one of America's favorite cities, ranking high in areas like transportation, cleanliness, and quality of life.
  • In 2005, Sperling's selected the Portland metro area as the 12th Best Place to Live.
  • Do you enjoy the great outdoors and a city that keeps its green spaces green? Portland appeared in the top ten list of Outside Magazine's 18 New American Dream Towns.
  • What makes a city bicyle-friendly? Well, Bicycling Magazine once again called Portland the best city for bicycling in North America.
  • Portland placed #9 on the list of most literate cities in America in a study at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.
  • Environmental awareness is part of life in Portland. That awareness and an active citizen population earned us the title #1 green city in a recent study by SustainLane, an online resource for sustainability.
  • In June 2005, Reader's Digest ranked Portland America's cleanest city.

And also, we came to Ann Arbor sight unseen and have loved it! Although, Portland begins with a "P" and we would lose the great alliteration of the Blog Title: The Adventures of Caroline & David Pettit: from Athens to Atlanta to Ann Arbor to Portland. Looks like we might have to find a nearby town that begins with an "A."
