Departure Ceremony at The White House

On Friday, David and I got a chance to see Obama take off in Marine One from The White House lawn!

One of our friends is able to reserve spots for arrival and departure ceremonies and called to see if we would be able to come on Friday morning.

We arrived at the Old Executive Office Building around 8:10 a.m. and walked into the White House grounds, past the West Wing. We saw where the Situation Room was and then stayed in a sort of "holding area" for maybe 20 minutes or so until we were ushered through the Palm Room, past the Rose Garden, on to the lawn.

This departure ceremony was special because the President was making a statement before he took off in Marine One. We could hear him talking but could not quite make out the words. When he was finished, we walked across the lawn into Marine One and took off. Right after Marine One took off, another identical helicopter flew past the White House and fell in formation (we guess so no one knows which helicopter the President is really in).

We got some great pictures and videos from the ceremony.
